What does Solace Care actually do?

Solace Care is a digital platform for legacy planning and bereavement support, founded in Stockholm in January 2025. It works on both sides of a death.

Before: policyholders can store documents and instructions, record their wishes, and share information with the people who will need it. After: the platform guides families through the administrative work that follows a death, across banks, insurers, pension providers, tax authorities and dozens of other organisations.

We do not sell to families directly. Solace Care is distributed through life insurers, pension providers and brokers, and can be offered under a partner's brand. It runs alongside existing policies without changing their underwriting, pricing or reserving.

Why does bereavement admin need a platform at all?

Because the workload is larger than most people expect and it lands at the worst possible moment. Families typically spend hundreds of hours dealing with 40 or more institutions after a death, at a point when concentration and patience are in short supply.

The insurance industry has been slow to close that gap. Only about 28% of European insurers offer any form of bereavement support, while roughly 89% of policyholders expect support that goes beyond the payout. That distance between what is offered and what is expected is the space Solace Care was built for.

What will the funding be used for?

Three things. Deepening the existing Nordic partnerships in Sweden, Finland and Norway, where Solace Care passed 25,000 covered lives in its first year. Opening Denmark, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. And hiring across product and commercial operations.

The Dutch market matters here in particular. It is one of the largest life insurance markets in Europe and one of the least served on bereavement support, with a single significant player concentrated inside one carrier.

Where was the funding round covered?

The round was picked up across European fintech, insurance trade and Nordic business media.

Fintech and startup press. FinTech Global covered the raise and the end-of-life positioning. EU-Startups framed it around Europe's ageing population and called it the largest pre-seed round to date for a European end-of-life platform. Swedish Tech News focused on the practical and emotional aftermath of a death.

Insurance trade press. Coverager set out the distribution model and how the platform sits alongside existing policies. InsurTech Analyst covered Spintop Ventures backing the grief support platform. Sak & Liv, the Swedish insurance and pensions trade title, reported the round in Swedish as 23 million kronor and set out the plan to build the sales organisation, deepen Nordic insurer partnerships and establish operations in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Nordic business media. Dagens PS reported the round in Swedish and looked at how much estate administration falls on surviving relatives. ArcticToday and Global Startups Insights also carried the announcement, and the round was listed on Dealroom.

Who invested in Solace Care?

The round was led by Spintop Ventures, a Nordic early-stage fund. They were joined by Plug and Play, Further Than Capital and Wave Ventures, alongside several insurance executives and angel investors who have built and run life insurance businesses in Europe.

What does this mean if you are dealing with a death right now?

Practically, nothing changes today. If you are in the middle of it, the guides are free to read and there is no funding announcement that makes any of this easier.

What the round does change is how quickly we can reach families through more insurers, in more countries, and how much of the administrative work the platform can take off your hands. If you are looking for a place to start right now, the checklist na overlijden sets out the order to do things in, and the verklaring van erfrecht guide explains the document most Dutch institutions ask for first.
